Explore the majesty of Mount Athos through film, starting with amateur filmographer Argyris Liapis’s documentary: Athos, the World’s Brightest Peak, winner of the Astron Award (Audience Favorite) at the 18th San Francisco Greek Film Festival in 2021. Three monks from Mount Athos share their thoughts about faith, monasticism, their decision to become monks, and the visitors to the Holy Mountain.

After a brief intermission with light refreshments, attendees will have the chance to view a salvaged film called No Woman’s Land. Recently discovered and digitized, this film is a fascinating record of a 1929 trip to Mount Athos and Meteora, Greece. Julia Gearhart, Director of Visual Resources at Princeton University, will introduce and screen the film, followed by audience questions.
