This award-winning film depicts a modern-day “holy fool” in a powerful story of faith and salvation.

In a small monastery in Northern Russia lives an unusual man whose bizarre behavior confuses his fellow monks, while visitors to the island believe the man has the power to heal, exorcise demons and foretell the future. Believing himself to be stained by sin from a long-ago act, the man attempts to cleanse his soul by self-denial, debasing himself to deflect honor for the exalted spiritual gifts he clearly possesses.

Winner of “Best Film” and 5 other awards at both the 2007 Golden Eagle Awards and the 2007 Nika Awards, as well as “Best Film” at the 2006 Moscow Premiere festival, The Island has been praised by intellectuals and clergy alike.
