Have you always wanted to try your hand at traditional Ukrainian egg decorating, also known as pysanky?
In this workshop, Hanka Robertson will teach participants how to draw on a plain white chicken egg with a special pen, known as a kystka, with melted wax, then color the egg with special dyes. The drawing and dyeing are repeated several times as each design layer is applied. All supplies are provided. Participants receive a short history of pysanky, instructions explaining the process, motifs and pictures for design inspiration, an explanation of how to care for the completed eggs, and a container to take the decorated eggs home.
Hanka Robertson, born in Slovenia, learned to make pysanky as a child. She was taught by her mother, who was born and raised in the former Czechoslovakia, where pysanky eggs were an annual Easter tradition.
