The Museum of Russian Icons has three copies of an icon type called The Ladder of Divine Ascent. In addition, it has recently acquired an early 19th century handwritten, 600+ folia Church Slavonic translation of the 7th century Greek text on which this type of icon is based, viz., Saint John Climacus’ The Ladder of Divine Ascent. The purpose of this research paper is to describe both of these artifacts, the codex and the icons, and to examine the relationship between the two.
