Summer Wednesday Nights at the Museum of Russian Icons

On Wednesdays June 18, July 16, and August 20, the Museum of Russian Icons will stay open until 8 p.m. Explore the Museum and enjoy special "Spotlight Tours" of the collection with the Museum’s docents. Admission is $5 for adults and voluntary for students, seniors, and children.

Russian Storytime for Families

Hear about Ivan and the Firebird and meet the famous Russian witch BabaYaga with award-winning storyteller Katie Green. Katie Green has traveled in Russia and brings these colorful characters to life in this performance for adults and older children. Storyteller Katie Green lives in Princeton, MA, and travels throughout New England and beyond telling stories and leading workshops. "Traveling in Russia made the Russian folktales more vibrant for me," Katie says. She participated in the Furst Russian Folk and Dance Festival in Yaroslavl in 1992, and has been performing Russian stories for audiences of all ages since then. Last March, Katie performed Russian folktales with the Newton Symphony Orchestra. Her recordings and book are available on her website, www.katiegreenstories.com.

Collection Tour and Tea with Catherine the Great of Russia

Meet Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, at the Museum of Russian Icons! Join the Empress (portrayed by Norah Kyle) for a tour of the collection, enjoy a cup of tea, and receive a royal proclamation signed by the Empress herself. $5 per person; advance registration not required.

The Language and Technique of Iconography: A Lecture with Alexander Gassel
Speaker: Alexander Gassel

Painter Alexander Gassel will present a short history of iconography focusing on the role of icons in the life of an Orthodox Christian. A tempera painter himself, Gassel will discuss the rules and traditional techniques of icon painting. Free with Museum admission.

Russian Language Study Group

Saturdays, September 13 through November 1, 9 – 11 am This fall, the Museum will be offering an eight-session beginning Russian Language study group on Saturday mornings. The course is designed to introduce beginners to conversational Russian. All materials will be provided. The course is limited to 12 people.
